From an original member of The Chaser newspaper (and published by the team behind The Chaser and Shovel Annual) comes The Final Edition - a satirical newspaper-style book in the tradition of The Onion and Private Eye annuals, packed with perennial headlines that could have run last week, last century, or next year, exposing how absurdly cyclical the news - and the world - really is.
From an original member of The Chaser newspaper (and published by the team behind The Chaser and Shovel Annual) comes The Final Edition - a satirical newspaper-style book that starts from the premise that most of the news stories breaking this week could in fact have been published several decades ago and will still ring true decades from now. From "Cover-up covered up with fresh cover-up" to "Superpower now opposed to armed group in war-torn country it previously armed" and from "Billionaire mounts pointless vanity project in space" to "Local authorities unprepared for seasonal change that occurs every year", this book is filled with stories that feel ripped from today's headlines, yesterday's front page, and next year's news cycle all at once.
Presented to look like a newspaper (remember those?), it is a perfect gift for readers who appreciate sharp, intelligent satire (The Onion, The Chaser, Private Eye, The Betoota Advocate) as well as news junkies and political watchers who have grown fatigued by the pace and breathlessness of the ever-urgent news agenda. The stories in The Final Edition will never date, because the absurdity they capture never really goes away.
But don't take our word for it. Instead you should not take Craig Reucassel's word for it: "If there was one final book I would read it would be this one (if I hadn't already given up reading)."
